High-Temperature Filter Bags – Core Filtration Solution for Steel Plant Dust Collectors
Introduction
The iron and steel manufacturing sector faces extreme flue gas challenges: sharp temperature fluctuations, corrosive acidic/alkaline exhaust, abrasive iron oxide dust, and strict global ultra-low emission standards. Conventional polyester filter bags fail rapidly under heat shocks above 160°C, causing frequent bag breakage, unstable dust removal efficiency, and surging maintenance costs.
Our custom-engineered high-temperature filter bags are purpose-built for steel plant baghouse dust collectors, delivering stable, long-lasting filtration performance across all high-heat steel production sections.

Harsh Working Conditions in Steel Factories
Steel production generates flue gas with severe composite hazards:
1.Extreme thermal load: Sintering lines, blast furnace cast houses, BOF converters and electric arc furnaces (EAF) produce continuous flue gas at 180–260°C, with instant peak temperatures hitting 280–300°C during melting periods. Ordinary filter media shrink, harden or rupture under cyclic temperature changes.
2.Complex chemical corrosion: Flue gas contains sulfur oxides, hydrogen fluoride and alkaline metal dust, which erodes uncoated fabric materials.
3.Highly abrasive fine dust: Iron oxide, silica and carbon particles wear filter surfaces, accelerating aging and leakage.
4.Strict emission limits: Global environmental codes require outlet dust concentration below 5mg/Nm³, demanding precise surface filtration.

We supply four mainstream high-temperature filter media tailored to different steel processes:
1.Aramid (Nomex) Filter Bags
Continuous operating temperature: Up to 204°C, outstanding abrasion resistance.
Application: Blast furnace cast houses, rolling mill fume collection, secondary small dust stations with mild acid gas.
2.PPS Filter Bags
Stable at 160–220°C, superior acid & alkali resistance, cost-effective.
Application: Sinter plant flue gas, blast furnace gas dry dedusting systems.
3.P84 Polyimide Filter Bags
Continuous heat resistance up to 260°C, excellent thermal shock tolerance.
Application: EAF primary dust capture, BOF converter high-temperature flue gas, high-temperature sinter cooling sections.
4.PTFE / Graphite Fiberglass Membrane Filter Bags
Long-term service at 260°C, instant peak tolerance up to 300°C, fully inert to acid & alkali corrosion. Equipped with ePTFE surface membrane for ultra-fine dust interception.
Application: Heavy-duty high-temperature furnaces, ultra-low emission transformation projects, waste steel melting furnaces with heavy corrosive fumes.
How High-Temperature Filter Bags Operate Inside Steel Dust Collectors
Installed vertically inside pulse baghouse dust collectors, the filter bags form the core filtration layer:
1.Hot flue gas carrying iron dust flows into the baghouse, passing through the exterior of filter bags; fine particulate is trapped on the fabric surface, while clean hot gas penetrates through the bags and discharges to exhaust stacks.
2.PLC-controlled pulse backblow systems release compressed air at set intervals to shake off accumulated dust cake, dropping dust into ash hoppers for centralized recycling of iron powder resources.
3.The ePTFE membrane coating on premium models achieves true surface filtration, preventing fine dust from embedding into fiber gaps, maintaining stable low system resistance and reducing fan power consumption by 10–15%.
Core Advantages for Steel Plant Operations
1.Exceptional thermal stability: Minimal shrinkage after hundreds of hot-cold cycles, no air leakage at tube sheet joints, eliminating unqualified dust emissions.
2.All-round chemical protection: Resist sulfur, chlorine and alkaline dust corrosion, extending service life by 2–3 times compared with standard polyester bags.
3.Ultra-low emission compliance: Membrane-coated models control outlet dust below 1mg/Nm³, fully meeting international steel industry environmental regulations.
4.Lower operational costs: Less frequent bag replacement cuts spare part expenses; stable pressure drop reduces fan energy consumption and downtime maintenance.
5.Resource recycling support: Dry dust collection avoids wastewater sludge, collected iron dust can be reused as raw production material, boosting circular economy benefits.
On-Site Application Cases
Our high-temperature filter bags have been deployed in dozens of integrated steel mills across Asia, Europe and Southeast Asia:
A 3-million-ton sinter plant replaced outdated common filter bags with PTFE fiberglass bags. System downtime for bag maintenance dropped by 70%, and stack dust emissions fell to 0.8mg/Nm³.
EAF primary dedusting renovation projects adopted P84 filter bags to withstand 260°C continuous flue gas, solving frequent bag melting failures caused by melting stage temperature spikes.
Conclusion
As steel enterprises accelerate green transformation and upgrade environmental protection equipment, high-temperature filter bags become an indispensable core component of baghouse dust collectors. Our R&D team provides one-stop customized solutions: material selection, surface coating treatment, size customization and on-site installation guidance, helping steel manufacturers balance stable production, energy conservation and environmental compliance.
